Is your shopsmith older than you?

Post by sailseahawk »

Wondering how many folks have a shopsmith older than themselves? If yours is older, by how many years? Any passed on from dad or grandad? Anyone have one from mom or grandma?

I was born in 1942 so, no... :)

I do have a 10-ER. Don't recall the year right now but a long ways from 1942. :D
My youngest SS is a 1988 510 I bought new.

For sure! My 10E serial number 1750 is from 1947 or 48, and predates me by a good ten years. My 1952 10ER beats me by six.

At last count, I own seven machines older than I am. And a few that are even older than farmer Robinson!

Radial arm saws: 1941 Dewalt MMB, 1955 DeWalt MBF, and early-1958 Dewalt MBF.
Jointer: 1930’s Heston & Anderson 6” x 60” bed.
Lathe: 1940/41 Craftsman 10” x 36”, manufactured by Atlas Press Co.

Mine is definitely newer than I am. My Dad bought it new in 1983 and handed it off to me when he wasn't using it anymore.

My main machine is "new, bought when I was 41 years old". However, my shorty substation is a 1959 or so, which is a few years older than me.

I was born in 1947 so none of my five 10ER's are younger than me let alone my MK V's.
