Guided saw system thought for today

If you have a guided saw system then this might be good hint/tip for you.

I have purchased a few extras for my track, one is a clamp on piece that gives you an edge to square a track against.

I've also got a parallel guide system that allows sheet goods, especially when you have a bunch of repetitive cuts to be made to be cut quickly and accurately.

My thought was to use the two together for some cross cut operations but until now I have not taken the time to put this into practice. Well now that I have I'm impressed at how well it works.

So today's project was to cut up some 1x12 to length for a simple yard type project. If the parts are even close they will work but I wanted to test the idea out so I was looking for a lot better then that.

This is the basic set up:

The blue piece is placed against the edge of the work piece and the parallel guide is adjusted for the length you want. Normally the parallel guides are used in pairs for ripping but there are no rules saying you can't do things differently.

The woodpecker stops are a flip stop and here it is being set up for a 24" cut:

With the stop down it rests on the end of the workpiece and the track is not adjusted to give a cut of 24".

What is nice is that that stop can be flipped up again and another stop added at another location, in this case 32". So I ended up cutting two 24" pieces then a 32" piece then two more 24" pieces. This was to allow decent usage of the wood and avoiding some damaged areas.........

So perhaps the title for the thread should have been "Parallel Guides not just for ripping anymore"

And like I said I really liked how this worked out and I know I'm going to be doing this a whole lot more.

Where did you get the blue clamp on piece? I use the Woodpeckers one time tool track square pictured below, but my brother in law missed out on that keeps pilfering mine from my shop. I really need to change the secuirty code.

I think you might want to just give him that one and start using this one:

No adjustments, just slide it on and latch. They advertised a newer version and I don't know if that is out yet or not or if this is the newer version????

Not cheap but then once you are on this slippery slope nothing is cheap.
