I have had the experience of squealing bearings and I have "resolved" that issue several times. Don't be surprised if the squeal returns. I don't believe that the squeal is actually a bearing noise although it is undoubtedly related to the bearings.
I believe the noise is the result of bandsaw blade against the metal surface of the bearings.
I came to this conclusion while I had a bandsaw that was screaming at me. A very small amount of grease applied carefully to the offending bearing surface while the bandsaw was running made the squeal disappear immediately.
Now, whenever the squeal returns I clean the bearings (I do not grease them) and then live with the squeal if it returns. I don't believe the squeal can be completely eliminated without some redesign.
The backup bearings are what I am referring to. The tracking bearings never give me a problem.

I forget which bearings -- as I've been happy for several years now with a quiet machine -- but I switched one or more of them to a rubber-sealed instead of a metal-shielded bearing. I think that finally got me what I was after for long term noise control.

Rubber Seals! Now that sounds interesting. No way to tell but I suspect that I have used nothing but metal seals.nuhobby wrote:I forget which bearings -- as I've been happy for several years now with a quiet machine -- but I switched one or more of them to a rubber-sealed instead of a metal-shielded bearing.
