"SafeSearch" removal.

There are several virus removal things out there that promise to remove "SafeSearch" which is a browser hijacker etc..

My local Senior Citizens Center has their public computer infected.

Any good advice re how to remove "SafeSearch' and it's ancillary 'functions'?

I have no answer for your question. However, I encourage everyone to install Malware and anti-virus software and pay for the premium version. I run Malwarebytes premium on three computers which has a life time license. I also run ESET NOD32 on three computers with a paid up license. Never had a virus and the programs alert you when you load a web page with a known questionable link or you get an email with a questionable attachment.

Both programs are updated regularly. The virus/malware databases are updated daily. To me it is well worth the little bit it costs

STEP 1. Uninstall SafeSearch.net application using Control Panel.
STEP 2. Remove SafeSearch.net redirect from Internet Explorer.
STEP 3. Remove SafeSearch.net browser hijacker from Google Chrome.
STEP 4. Remove SafeSearch.net homepage and default search engine from Mozilla Firefox.
STEP 5. Remove SafeSearch.net redirect from Safari.
STEP 6. Remove rogue plug-ins from Microsoft Edge.

Use the program uninstall in Windows or use CCCleaner if you can.

Then:

Best case, remove the HD and mount it in another machine. Run Malwarebytes multiple times on Hard Disk.

If you don't have another machine, you might be able to finish saving it by booting into safe mode and running Malwarebytes.

Safesearch is a relatively benign process, but they do "cheat" with endless redirects and such.

Do the above, and you should be OK.

Thank You. Removing the HD will likely not be possible. It is not my responsibility to fix it, but do wish to point them. It is possible the city has a guru for doing this.(maybe)

Be careful of the "cleanup" programs you install. Recently CC cleaner put out a hacked version with spyware of their own.

Be careful of the "cleanup" programs you install. Recently CC cleaner put out a hacked version with spyware of their own.

It affected one minor version and it has been completely cleaned up now. This kind of stuff happens all the time in the tech world. Just stay up to date, have security/safety procedures and you won't have problems.

CCCleaner is a great program (as is Defraggler). Don't be afraid to use it, it does a great job.

It IS unfortunate that Avast bought them out. LOL
