Serial number on a MkV 510
I'm looking at buying a Mark V with serial number 51-014039. Can anyone tell me the year it was born? I can't seem to find it on SS's site
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Serial number on a MkV 510
Why do you think that 51-14039 is the serial number of a Mark V? That does not fit the format of any Shopsmith serial number I am aware of.

A poor pix, but the arrow points to 51 which is a prefix to the sn. (Mid 1986)jsburger wrote:Please enlighten all of us how you determined that.JPG wrote:October 1987

I want to see a data plate with that type of serial number.
Also a SS inc. Mark 5 plate(late 1982).
If I get a chance tomorrow(with daylight) I will take a better pix of the 51-..... plate.

Re: Serial number on a MkV 510
OK, what am I missing? The SS serial number chart says 1986 is 213306 - 221358. Those are 6 digit numbers. Your 51 plate is a 4 digit number. Your SS plate and the OP's number are 5 digit. That would make them years 1973-1978 according to the SS chart. StillJPG wrote:A poor pix, but the arrow points to 51 which is a prefix to the sn. Re: Serial number on a MkV 510
The sn's reset with the introduction of the 510(perhaps the reason for the '51 - ' prefix). 4 digits in 86, 5 digits came in 87. Mine was an early (86) 4 digit sn.jsburger wrote:OK, what am I missing? The SS serial number chart says 1986 is 213306 - 221358. Those are 6 digit numbers. Your 51 plate is a 4 digit number. Then the SN chart on the SS web site is useless. StillJPG wrote:The sn's reset with the introduction of the 510(perhaps the reason for the '51 - ' prefix). 4 digits in 86, 5 digits came in 87. P.S. Daylight pix did not happen.I guess the SS chart does not include Model 510's. I guess they should fix that to avoid confusion.
