Sanding a deep bowl

Post by tommyrich »

What do some of you guys use to sand the bottom of a deep bowl without losing fingers it's about 5 inches deep and about 2 inches wide at the bottom.
Thanks

If you don't have a speed reducer, you might be better off doing the sanding by hand off the lathe. 700 rpm is pretty fast for sanding anyway. A piece of dowel that has been rounded off like a broom handle and then covered with some firm foam might work.

In those situations I tape sandpaper to the end of a stick with a piece of terry cloth towel under the sandpaper. Wear gloves because if the stick catches it can get rough on the hands.
