Opening Dual Copies of a File

Post by dusty »

I have a dual monitor set up. There are times when I want to view the same document on each monitor. I can do this, as an example, when I am viewing my Microsoft Excel files. I simply open the document file twice.

I can not do this with an Adobe Acrobat Reader file; even if one file is in the Cloud and the other is a PDF on my computer. Am I missing something or has Adobe done something to prevent this maneuver.

I found a way, though clumsy, that I can do this. Simple open one from the cloud (using Adobe Reader) and then open it again from a copy on my F: drive (opening the file using Firefox).

Apparently, Adobe Acrobat Reader prevents the same file from being opened twice.

As a long time genealogy nut I have used all kinds of ways to look at "stuff". It just isn't enough to keep switching back and forth between tabs. I used to use two desktop pc's and sometimes sneak in an old laptop I had.
I have two laptops now (one Ubuntu Linux and one Windows 10) that I use while sitting in my recliner. I can put one half on each leg and half on each chair arm. Then I sometimes grab the tablet and then the smart phone... I leave the phone on the phone signal and everything else is on the wifi.
Some times it gets a little busy but it works fairly well. Ancestry doesn't seem to care how many connections I have going at once or how many tabs.

I keep getting notes that Adobe is canceling support for something??? Maybe it is Chrome or Chromium? IDK... Guess I should check on it.

If Acrobat Reader won't allow multiple instances, then you can use a different viewer for one of the Windows. That's pretty much what you've done opening the document the second time in Firefox. But there are other capable PDF readers - FoxIt, Nitro, etc.
