Charlese, Where Are You

Post by dusty »

I do so hope and pray that all is well with you and yours. You seem to post much less frequently and have posted at all in the past 30 days or so.

As I said, I pray all is well.

We do miss your "level headed guidance".

I was wondering the same thing.

I hope all is well and that Chuck is too busy making toys to post.

Wish I was in the shop, making toys, but that's not the way things have gone, Darn it!!

My sweet wife has been slowing down for quite a while and has now been diagnosed with Alzheimers and my attention has been with her. Now on meds, she is holding her own. This is a long term disease and we are making plans to access all necessary help. VA assistance is included.

NO SYMPATHY LEASE!! JUST THE FACTS.

I am learning new skills, such as dusting and cooking. Got a crock pot, and like to throw things into it. Also bought a Shark Ion robot vacuum. It is scary that it has picked up so much dust, after I vacuumed with a regular machine. That little bugger does a good job!

Long term plans include giving me time to get back into the shop and make more sawdust.

MY PHYSICAL HEALTH AND MENTAL STATUS IS GREAT!!

As for cleaning and cooking, there would be no learning curve there for me. I have always been involved with the chores. Not my idea. That's just the way it is. Good luck.

My prayer also go with you and your wife.
Love Crock pots! Throw a nice roast in during the morning with a can or two of broth ( try both chick or beef) a few quarters of onions, a couple cloves of gralic. Around noon or early after noon throw in some potatoes, carrots and celery. By four or five you have beef fork tender and nicely flavored vegetables.

Take cube steak, dry it good flour it then brown either in cast iron skillet or a regular pan. If in cast iron skillet once brown add 32 oz of chicken broth cover and place in 300 oven for five hours. If in pan move steak to crock pot use chick broth to deglaze skillet and pour into crock pot. Cook on high for about 4-5 hours check for fork tender.

If you have a Sam’s buy a roasted chicken. Skin it and debone it. Simmer bones and skin for about three hours. Take the chicke meat cut or tear it and divide in half. In a large pot dice a whole onion and and about half a bunch of celery add chicken half the simmered juice from the bones and skin and a 32 oz container of chicken broth add about a cup,and on half rice and simmer until rice is very soft. Chicken rice soup! Take the othe half do the same thing only put in noodles and you will have a great chicken noodle soup. None of this takes any real time to make.

Crock pot make almost any budget cut of meat fit for a king and really great cuts of meat melt in the mouth tender.

Will keep you and yours in prayer!

Word of advice do not feel you are doing your wife a disservice if you need to put her in a Alzheimer’s home. My brother has the disease and his family resisted tooth and nail not to put him in a home, but it finally became too much. Found out he is about 500 times happier in there with his “friends”
Of course family checks on him daily to make sure the facility is caring for him. Last thing my brother said to me that I understood was an answer to my question are you okay? He said he was having a ball but everyone else was upset because of his Alzheimer’s.
For what it is worth.

Ed, great recipies and great advice. Dimentia is a scary road that anyone of us may have to travel. Thank God there is family and friends to give support. Can’t imagine dealing with this when alone. Charlese, God bless you.

Wishing you all the best with your new skills. I'm not the best with cleaning but I do do most of the cooking here.

One of our favourite crock pot recipes is pulled pork. http://www.geniuskitchen.com/recipe/pul ... pot-131018

I usually get a pork loin from Costco and cut lengths to fit in the crock pot, and I use ginger beer instead of the ginger aie,
When it's cooked I divide it into meal sized portions and freeze in zip lock freezer bags.

Ginger beer, instead of gingerale?
GREAT suggestion. I LOVE Ginger Beer!

Ron, look for Pork Butt, or Pork Shoulder.
Pork loin is too lean. With pulled Pork,
fat is your friend!

Chuck, ANYTHING we can do to help,
just mention it!

10 ER, stripped down.
Basic 10ER, Parts machine. Will be a semi-dedicated drill-press machine.
10 ER, a "survivor" of the trailer fire, in the back yard, needing restoration. Has a Mk5 headrest. Finally, stripped down.
Numerous parts, for Model 10 stuff. Except for lower saw guard, A and B adapters, I've got it.

Looking for one more, or some 9 inch extension table raisers.

Prayers from here as well. My wife and I went through Alzheimer's with her mother. It will actually be worse on you than on your wife. Peace be with you!

Indeed, it is the caregiver who needs 'support'.

Do not neglect to take care of thyself. If you go down, who will take care of her.
