+1 on what Ed said for the options including the 6" drum.

You've parted with a few bucks on the nice headstock, so you're not beholden to buy every tiny accessory from the Mother Ship. Good learning-opportunity here on drilling versus boring (in the machinist's sense). Drill bits of that small diameter are almost more likely to wander than anything else. If you work that big wood dowel from both ends, you can mount it between centers, like a lathe workpiece. Then you can really have it spinning true. Or while in the lathe setup, you can devise some precisely bored holes on each end of the wood drum, useful when you mount it up in a chuck of your choice.

Thanks, I’ll look into the Shopsmith sanding options. And you’re right, I do have the shaper insert. I thought they were the same. Thanks again for the tips!
