I got a email this afternoon saving they fixed the headstock and fedex has it.It is supposed to be delivered to me on Friday afternoon or evening. I'll keep you posted as to when I get it and its working staus. will be happy to get it together and to get some organization to the shop and start working work on projects.

The box to ship my headstock showed up late Monday night. Tuesday night I boxed it up. The good thing is the shipping box is really sturdy and all the packing material and instructions on how to pack it are first rate. I took it to my local FedEX Wednesday morning.

This is strange sounding to me. I shipped back my PowerPro a couple of times and did not have this experience. In both cases, the carton came from Shopsmith with return shipping data. Both return boxes were picked up from my home be Fed Ex. There was no need to carry a loaded return box to a Fed Ex location. Both times they were seamless smooth operations. Yes, SS did improve their shipping carton since the first time.

Maybe they were being nice to a curmudgeon.

This is good to hear. Did they, by chance, tell you what the fix was? Software, Hardware, Whatever?

May it be many years until you face an issue like this again.

I picked up my PowerPro from FedEX on Friday. Someone asked about FedEX Home delivery - it doesn't work for me as I am at work when they deliver so no one is around to sign for for it. My son-in-law helped me install the head and I plugged it in to the 220 and it worked and I am back in business. I appreciate the engineer who called me and assured me she had everything working.

Sunday I installed the lift assist kit and it makes a world of difference in moving it to drill press position. One note is with the double tilt you need to do some adjusting of the top braket otherwise you cannot use it for under table work because the arm blocks the screw so you can't release it for under table operation. I used an open ended 1/2 wrench for a guage to locate the upper bracket then tightened everything in place.

Bottom line all good now.

So what was the issue with it?

a screw and a wiring issue. One thing she told me was some of the connectors especially the white is so tight you often need a pliers to make the
connection secure. She also used locktite on some of the screws.

It was a long time getting there but I am happy doing like Dusty says "making sawdust".

Restores confidence in Shopsmith! Still a little disappointed that it took so long to make things happen.

A screw (loose or missing), wiring problems (presumably connectors not secure, and a need for locktite. These are all quality control issues and not design issues (well sorta). Shopsmith has delivered enough of these and resolved enough manufacturing issues that the quality problems should all be history.

The wiring harnesses appear to be a cause for many of the problems. I would first suspect that the wires are too short thus putting stress on the connectors. That coupled with vibration during shipping and then in use and we now have intermittent problems. Some of this presumably because there is a lot packed in a small container.

All that said (all assumptions - no facts), I am glad to hear that you now have it in place and ready, as you say, t6o make some sawdust.

Surely you have read the instructions ( especially the safety instructions and the maintenance instructions ). Now it is time to check all of the alignments and familiarize yourself with the five locks (table tilt, quill, table height, table tilt and carriage. The locks should all be secure any time work is being done.

Would be nice to hear what exact screw and connector were problems during the owner upgrade. Maybe a warning in the instructions at those steps. Glad to hear it is fixed!
