Veteran's Day

On this day I remember and honor my great-grandfather, and namesake, a Civil War cavalryman 1863-65. He suffered, and fortunately for me, survived internment at Andersonville.

Sometimes it doesn't seem like saying Than You is enough for all our service men and women have done, not only for our country but the many countries around the world that they have helped.

Ed thanks for sharing the photo from your tour in Vietnam.
My sweetie was a child then but she sends her thanks. She came to the states when she was 7.

Last month I started helping one of the local VFW post with their monthly pancake & sausage breakfast. Once a month except for the holiday season.
They put up photos of the past & present members of the post with a projection system and I really enjoy the presentation.

All proceeds go toward the post's maintenance and to the local scholarships that they present.

Back home we used to play Euchre at the VFW Post. I don't care how bad those WW II guys said their eye sight was, they hammered us younger guys at the table.

Even though I didn't serve, I enjoy helping and sharing the comraderie.

I lost my father earlier this year. He served in Korea, saw combat through the ceasefire in the 5th RCT, 5th Infnatry Div..

We enjoyed a hobby together of restoring antique military vehicles, this one is mine. 1953 Willys-Overland M38A1, marked as his unit would have been at the time. He and I would parade often, and I miss his company.

He purchased his MkV after a demo, got a discount by buying the demo! His is mine now, and it continues to make sawdust.

I want to express my thanks to all US Veterans for their hard work, courage and unwavering faith in our country. Today, I had the honor to attend a special scout meeting. Scouts had invited Veterans to come and speak about their service and what it meant to them. There was one Veteran that could not bring himself to talk about his service, instead, he talked about his experience as a scout leader. Later, that Veterans daughter-in-law privately told me what he did during his service: He was one of the original Navy SEALs, before there was a Navy SEAL. He did underwater recon work. Although I have not served, I respect those that have. My father, and his father before him, both served in the US Marine Corp. May our country always honor her protectors!
