10 ER Lathe Extension

Post by e2512 »

I was contacted by a lady wanting a lathe extension for the ER. I sent her a copy of the extension .pdf file and told her I can help her access the parts. But I have a few questions.

Was this something that was orderable from Magna? Or was it a design to be put together by the owner? I've never seen one for sale or on a SS.

Has anyone put this together? I'm looking for some helpfull hints to pass along to her.

It seems easy enough if the builder has access to a metal lathe to make the insert tubes.

Thanks, Tom

They were not made by Magna, a member of the Yahoo Shopsmith10ER users group (Scott Grune, (posted as carrera_lemans247 and also as intakexhaust)
used to make and sell them but he hasn't been active for several years and his web site is no longer active.

We kicked the idea around here some years ago. http://www.shopsmith.com/ss_forum/maint ... 13316.html
and it sounds like Steve (skou), was working on making one, but I don't recall if he finished it. Hopefully he will chime in.

I forgot about Scott. He and I had some great conversations. I wonder what happened to him.

This thread on the Yahoo forum was the last reference of some one actually communicating with him that I have seen. https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/Sho ... pics/26154

I do too. He was in the process of having the original Magna A and B power mount adapters re-cast. We corresponded many times on the project. In particular on how to mark the new parts to differentiate them from the original. Some of us even gave him seed money for the project. Shortly before the first castings were supposed to be finished he very suddenly disappeared. I have always suspected the worst.
