A down-side to my basement shop

I believe that it was a number of years ago now when I mentioned here how many machine and project pictures posted here were taken in front of an over-head garage door. I have quite a few of my pictures taken in front a garage door. When your shop is a garage most of the time the door is a clear spot. Since my basement's outside door is just a wide walk door I don't have a "clean spot" for picture taking...
I try to avoid doing anything too wild and radical but I may just have to clean up the shop...
I've been moving stuff around a little for several days so stuff is in different spots but any improvement in appearance is coming very slowly...
As a "cheat" I have been known to stand a couple of 4'x8' sheets of something up as a picture background.
This cold snap around zero is a bit of a blessing in that I am spending less time outdoors or on unheated projects and am spending more time in the wood shop where it's warm. When I am so far behind I sometimes find myself feeling a bit guilty about fun shop time like I am goofing off.

If I didn't have a basement workshop, I wouldn't be able to work in the winter. In this climate I can't afford to heat my garage.
It was -25 this morning and got all the way up to -17 this afternoon. Tonight is forecast to be around -30. Can you imagine the heating bill to heat a garage in this weather?
However, my basement shop is a nice 65 degrees day and night in the winter.

Francis, Gary, sorry to rain on your parade here,
BUT, 80 degrees yesterday, and 78 today.

Midnight to about 10 AM, heater on. 10 to 2,
nothing. 2 to 6, AC.

I've got a new Cast Iron 12 inch Lodge Deep
skillet, I'm waiting to put a second coat of
seasoning on. Soon as it is cool enough, the
oven will be our heater.

What? You think I want to season it in July?

Don't worry. You aren't raining on my parade. This cool weather does a great job of cleansing the gene pool here. The undesirables leave and go back south to you so I don't have to live around them. It is worth it to get that in trade for the way life is down south.

Can you imagine the heating bill to heat a garage in this weather?

I don't have to imagine it. My shop is a two car garage that is heavily inuslated, R50 Ceilings and R38 foamed walls with an electric heater. The elctric bill for the shop is about $150-200 a month this time of year.

For what it's worth, I live in Minnesota for the beautiful winters. I'm uncomfortable at anything over about 65 degrees.

I've heard people from the North say it's never too cold. You're simply improperly dressed. I can believe it.

There's a sense of accomplishment simply performing the daily tasks of life at those temperatures.

Welcome to my "overhead garage door" in my woodshop.
OK... It isn't a garage. It isn't overhead. And it isn't a door...
What it is is a place to take a picture without wall to wall clutter in the background.
It is also very inspirational to get me to follow up on making proper homes for all of this stuff that got moved in and "parked" in empty spots. It's starting to fall into place fairly well now.
The shop isn't blue, that is blue foam board. It gets covered with my version of a slat hanger system. This is part of the north wall. So far I have 32' of the east wall installed but not painted yet. It's going to be yellow with fairly light gray slat faces.
This picture isn't very good. Either my hand or the room, one or the other, was shaking too much...

The up-side... I was in the woodshop at about 2:30 am today for about an hour or more.
Outside temp zero...
Shop temp +70...
Extra heat cost = zero.
