How is the Shopsmith Bandsaw different than other Bandsaws?

Post by everettdavis »

How and why is the Shopsmith Bandsaw different than other Bandsaws?

To answer that question, I started with the inventors statements and patent application which had to define, just that.

When I first started this project, I believed it would be desirable to use the exact words in the original 1956 patent application, coupled with the drawings submitted, simply placing copies of the various illustrations in-line with the text submitted to assist readers of this new document.

That quickly proved insufficient to my objective.

Three of my mentors in the Shopsmith Forums https://www.shopsmith.com/ss_forum/index.php have contributed to this documentation effort prior to its release:

James Grange Sr. a.k.a. “JPG”
Richard Wagner a.k.a. “Dusty”
John S. Burger a.k.a. “jsburger”

Each has reviewed and collaboratively provided their substantive insight, experience and knowledge to help this document be what it is today, and provide value and insight to both the reader, and myself.

For that I am abundantly and eternally grateful.

This is prepared to be a static document for reference by-line-number in ongoing forum and other discussions and for those reasons I am not planning on editing it further.

Due to its size it is available for download under the My Google Drive link at http://www.shopsmith.com/ss_forum/viewt ... 90#p185690 in the thread titled "Shopsmith Large Format Drawings, Illustrations and More"

I hope it will enhance your understanding of the Shopsmith Bandsaw.

Yes I renamed the original topic to something that is really at the heart of the discussion in the first place.

I hope folks will weigh in with their knowledge and we can learn and share together.

It's ok to get into the weeds if we want to. My hopes are that we have a framework for that in the PDF that was created and the new enhanced drawings will foster better understanding.

What document are you referring to on your Google Drive? The one with list of recent band saw parts prices?
