I actually never made a mock up. Years ago I made a shorty. I bought all the parts on eBay (legs, tubes, head stock, carriage and table). I cut 18" off the tubes to make the shorty. Years later when I upgraded my full size SS to a Power Pro head stock and double tilt I had an extra head stock and bench end castings. I decided to make a dedicated drill press. I had the 18" bench tubes from the shorty so I got a set of legs and a 520 table on eBay. The way tubes are full length 10ER thick tubes. As far as how long to make a shorty it is up to you and what you want to use it for. I cut mine down 18". It is full up with head stock and table. If you look closely you can see the power coupler is separated from the head stock and there is still 2" or 3" to move the head stock/carriage to the right.

Are you telling me the 1 1/2 EMT is 1.5 I.D. and the O.D. is 1.750?

I received the legs ordered on eBay a couple of weeks ago and found I was short the way bar tie bar. Had to order one on eBay and got it today.
I used JPG's suggestion and cut the old Mark VII Way tubes at 25 5/8" and was left with a piece 26 3/8" for the bottom tubes. Put it together and it seems to do what I wanted. I can mount the band saw and disc sander to make almost a sanding station or switch the band saw with the belt sander combined with the disc sander. I wanted to mount the jointer on the Mark V and not be removing it when ever I wanted to use the band saw. Not a total fix but better than the way it was. Included a couple of pictures for comments.

Doug, I like! Can you tell me the total length of the unit measured on the floor? Just might be able to squeeze that in a nook or cranny! Any thoughts on dust control for the disc sander? My shop is in my basement.

It looks like you would need 43". If the band saw is on it the table adds aprox. 3". I don't think the belt sander would add anything but I can't give you accurate measurements until I can switch the items.

John I didn't install the carriage nor the main table. Didn't have enough
room on the way tubes. I don't think I can use the lower saw guard. Will need to check it out. My thoughts on dust control for the disc sander is push it out on the driveway. Unfortunately that's hard to do if its in the basement.
