I think something is binding and causing the breaker to pop

Good idea JPG i will try to get a startup video loaded later this week.

The other maintenance item i did based on Jacob’s YouTube vid was to slide the bottom sleeve out while the motor was out and put some oil on it and slide it back and forth so it also oiled the piece the sheaves sit on. I think that helped some of the noise go away that i was originally concerned about.

If you have not already done this, turn it on with the drive belt (to the motor) removed. If something other than the motor is causing your problem this will be a pretty good indication.

I did fire the motor up unattached when i desired and added the new switch. It was smooth. It also doesn’t seem to make that binding sound very much anymore and I’m curious if oiling the rod the bottom sheave is mounted to helped with that.

The motor shaft?

Realize the oil needs to go between the floating sheave and the motor shaft. The sheave slides on the shaft as it opens and closes. Nothing else there requires oiling. That is the reason the sheave hub has an oiling hole so the oil gets in between the sheave and the shaft.

Agree with your commentary. But in one of Jacob’s video’s he recommended putting a little oil on the motor shaft as well as the oiling hole and since he is the self proclaimed shopsmith repair guru i gave it a try

But of course. My concern was lack of the word motor shaft in what you described. I firmly believe that is preferable to only oiling the hole.

I wanted to make sure your 'rod' was the motor shaft.

When you put the cover back on it will have a little less noise but it sounds pretty normal for a shopsmith. If you ever go to the powerpro it really gets quiet.
