Yup. Washington, Montana, Idaho, North Dakota, Nebraska. I have lived there and I have used one of those many times.

Then I moved to Arizona and I left the shovel there in Omaha.

Well there here is something interesting about snow scoops:

https://www.google.com/patents/US2823470

It's funny because I think I remember these much earlier but I guess they were never though of as a patent-able item.

There was a sheet metal/heating place that made these during the off months and sold a bunch of them. You would drive by they would have a stack of them setting out then the snows came they were gone. In that area it wasn't uncommon to see 200+ inches of snow and being the hardy souls they were you saw a lot of them in use.

Around here I think I might be the only one that has one. You can tell because of the trails that are left from pushing/pulling the snow.

So the plow came by taking care of last nights snow and I have some end of the driveway clean up to do. That includes a rather large boulder of snow that the plow dislodged by going backwards down the street........ OH well what else do I have to do today? Still to cold to work economically in the shop so I'll just go play in the snow.

The one in the patent has "riffles" in the bottom for snow retention??? Seem to me like it would just make it harder to empty.

Today's project was not caused by more snow falling but rather the plow deciding to plow backwards down the street. It caught an edge of the bank and deposited a rather large snowball at then end of the driveway. I hate when that happens because the snowball is more like an ice ball and very heavy and dense with road slush packed in.

So this is how it's done with a snow scoop.

Then cleave off chunks to slide away.

It took a couple of trips but it was getting smaller all the time.

Then it was small enough to scoop up.

I still had some small clean up along the rest of the driveway and then near the mail box. I also cleared the street drain as it will be melting later next week, maybe not all of it but some of it anyway.

Why do your yards look like the inside of my freezer?

Funny thing, the store I used to work at, has sold snow
shovels, on more than one occasion. Have no idea why!

10 ER, stripped down.
Basic 10ER, Parts machine. Will be a semi-dedicated drill-press machine.
10 ER, a "survivor" of the trailer fire, in the back yard, needing restoration. Has a Mk5 headrest. Finally, stripped down.
Numerous parts, for Model 10 stuff. Except for lower saw guard, A and B adapters, I've got it.

Looking for one more, or some 9 inch extension table raisers.
