Joint-matic?

Joint-matic?
A Shopsmith Joint-matic has come up on Craigslist just down the road from where I live (less than 5 min drive).
https://victoria.craigslist.ca/tls/d/ro ... 98948.html
So the question is, do I want/need it, and is that a good price? Any thoughts from Joint-Matic owners.

Re: Joint-matic?
If you have the room I think it is a good price. I paid a LOT more then that.
The place to look at is where the plastic slide and rod meet. The failure happens there. Shopsmith had some new ones on sale a while back and I got an extra, not sure if they have any left. Mine came repaired and the repair has held so if I ever do need the new one I will be all set. I will also reinforce it before starting to use it.
You don't see them come up for sale often.

Check for the manual. Not a big deal but you will need it. I think it was $10-$15 from shopsmith if they still have them.
The slider is part number 515840 I did a search but it didn't find it but a call might tell you if they really have any left.

That item was part of the clearance sale in NOV?. I ordered one then - still 'in process'.reible wrote:Check for the manual. Not a big deal but you will need it. I think it was $10-$15 from shopsmith if they still have them.

Re: Joint-matic?
Yes that is when I ordered mine and it arrived pretty quickly. I made the order 10/28 and it shipped 10/31, delivered 11/1. Another items appeared to be no longer available so it was just the single item.

Re: Joint-matic?
I guess I really don't understand the Joint-Matic. Does the Joint-Matic let you do anything that you couldn't do just as easily with with the most recent version of the Overarm Pin Router mounted to a Mark V left in horizontal mode? Or for that matter with the a regular old Mark V with a quill-mounted router chuck in horizontal mode (putting aside maximum rpm issues)?

Re: Joint-matic?
OK.
I picked it up last night.
I forgot to ask about the manual, I'll call him back today to check.
If not I found one on line that I can print out. (The Mothership doesn't ship to Canada, so I can't order from them.)

Then there is bi-national Shipwright who knows how to 'smuggle' annually.
