Buying my first Shopsmith, what kind is this?
So I am shopping around for my first Shopsmith and came across this one for sale. I have been doing some research and understand the difference between 500,510,520, and Mark VII. I also understand there are some older ones that were 2 toned green and grey, but I am looking at this one that is solid green??? Also comes with some kind of drum sander/ disc sander combo stand. Was there a solid green shopsmith?

No solid green from SS. It could have been painted.

I have a feeling this one has probably been rebuilt and changed a million times. It was the persons Dads and he has no idea what it is. The listing calls it a Craftsman Shopsmith and Bandsaw. But it’s actually a Shopsmith, Craftsman Blades, and a drum sander. Hopefully this link works.

The Shopsmith is a 500 that at some point was repainted. I did not see the band saw but the table may be on the floor in one of the in the pictures. I think the sanding station may be an older Craftsman.

It is a "B" headstock and possibly a 'greenie'. That would indicate a Gilmer drive. A Mark 5 for sure. Not a Mark V 500.
The vent plate with Serial # would help nail it down.
I am not sure if the 'gray/silver' under the peeling paint is original or primer.
The sander is not SS but is likely Craftsman as mentioned by the seller.
P.S. Looks like a jointer on the end(next to last pix).

Ok so I really don’t want the belt sander, but what would you find reasonable for the price on the 500? Knowing that the guy really can’t guve me much info. And really can’t tell me what all is there since he has no idea what it is. Or should I just pass?

IMHO I would hold out for a 510 or better. The 510 was a major improvement.

If it has a v-belt you can upgrade to the double bearing quill with factory kit according to the website .
