Re: Pop-ups are worse than Spam
What infuriates me is the constant changing of what is displayed and where things are positioned after a screen is created. Makes clicking on 'boxes' a crap shoot. Due no doubt to 'things' being inserted(pop ups?).
Ahh the price we pay for 'free' internet(Yahoo???).
I be curious if the same things happen elsewhere.
Now back to the original program!
I do not consider the occasional pop ups on this forum to be onerous. I can only think of one that appears upon initial entry.

Re: Pop-ups are worse than Spam
I don't see any of that screen positioning or any pop-ups on this site.
I think many people are having issues because they are trying to access the internet with tablets and phones. Tablets and phones are still in the infancy of their software development and usually not ready for real world use just yet.
Real computers run complete software packages that have years of development behind them. Phones are trying to cut corners with third party apps which are often laden with viruses and spyware. Once you load up your phone or tablet with apps of unknown quality, don't be surprised if one or more of them takes over your device and feeds you lots of ads and spyware.

"Real Computers"????
Believe me when I say smart phones and tablets are definitely 'real computers', they are just not 'general purpose' so to speak(narrow functionality that is defined by the 'apps').
So is my 'laptop' a 'real computer'?

If your laptop runs apps, then no, it isn't a real computer. If it uses only complete software packages that have decades of development, then it is a real computer.

Does "DOS" count?
Gotta disagree with the development criteria.
Now what is a 'complete' software 'package'?
All software has intended application(s). i.e. reason for it's existence.
I dislike the use of the term 'app' for program. Sorta like referring to directories as folders.
Why do we not refer to spades as spades rather than referring to them as shovels? Yes there is a difference.
But I digress severely.
P.S. Maybe 'real keyboard' is the distinction!

Re: Pop-ups are worse than Spam
Sounds like you have an app dog that follows you around.........
Not seeing that on my machines, 2 PC's and 2 tablets and a phone..... now if I go to off the forum to other shopsmith locations I do see a little box pop up now and then which you can just ignore and it goes away(lower right corner).
BTW foxfire upgraded this morning to 59.0.

Re: Pop-ups are worse than Spam
That is the one I get on the 1 month old new computer in the shop running Windows 10, the latest Firefox and an ad blocker. However, it is very random on the new shop computer. Not every page like it was in the beginning. I do not get it any more on the lap top in the house and didn't on the old shop computer after SS "fixed it" way back when they first started it.ChrisNeilan wrote:I am running Windows 10, Firefox (Latest) AND and adblocker! Re: Pop-ups are worse than Spam
Could the 'extra' tool bar be relevant?

Re: Pop-ups are worse than Spam
As an update, the pop-ups haven’t happened to me for the past few days. Maybe the site management decidied that annoying registered users who are already logged in was not necessary — or, corrected the bug that was causing it. If so, Thank You.
