SAFETY HAZARD on Powerpro upgrade

SAFETY HAZARD on Powerpro upgrade
Please help. I upgraded my 1960 era Mark 5 a few years ago. Made a tremendous difference and was worth the cost. However yesterday while I was using the lathe, I couldn’t stop the motor. I had to throw the main switch to get the motor to stop. Pushing the stop button jest made the screen go blank. It would then read “ready........”. I could change the speed, but couldn’t stop it. I’m glad I was using the lathe. It would have been very dangerous as a table saw.
What is going on? I haven’t seen anyone else with this problem.

Re: SAFETY HAZARD on Powerpro upgrade
That’s easier said than done. After a week of waiting on hold, leaving voicemails and sending emails, I got a live person at 4:25 on a Friday afternoon. Hopefully an engineer will call back to get this resolved.
Re: SAFETY HAZARD on Powerpro upgrade
That is typical of anything with electronics in it. Remember that electronics has two states of operation.
1. intermittent or normal
2. dead.
Your controller module got confused like electronics with microprocessors is expected to do.
Yes, if it does it again, get in touch with Shopsmith and see what they can do about it.

Re: SAFETY HAZARD on Powerpro upgrade
I would also consider getting or making a cord with manual emergency stop switch and put it between the wall socket and the Shopsmith power cord. If you set it near your work you can easily tap it with your foot to get a dependable stop anytime you want.
Re: SAFETY HAZARD on Powerpro upgrade
I haven't had that problem yet but the manual says the RED on /off button is for emergency stopping.
Hope this helps

Re: SAFETY HAZARD on Powerpro upgrade
It is now 3 weeks since I tried contacting Shopsmith. I have sent 5 emails and left 2 voice mails. I called last week and the person said I likely talked to a new girl and nothing was done. I just called and got through quickly (a first), Unfortunately there was no record of my problem. They said that I could buy a new control panel or send it in to get fixed. After 5 years, it's "out of warranty".
That is BS. After spending over $1000 for the upgrade, my Shopsmith died in 5 years after running for 50 years before that.

Gotta ask that that alleged 'new girl' thinks her job is?Barney1 wrote:It is now 3 weeks since I tried contacting Shopsmith. I have sent 5 emails and left 2 voice mails. Perhaps by 'sending it in' they will discover a manufacturing defect.
BTW only face time works(usually). E-mails and voice mails seldom do.
Elsewhere as well as SS CS.

Re: SAFETY HAZARD on Powerpro upgrade
I have been told that my powerpro controller works fine. They said they are sending it back. That was over a week ago. They suggested that I take a video the next time that the machine won’t stop. Perhaps I can get a video of it chopping off my fingers.
