Hello everyone. I am new but excited to be here. My name is Matt and I look forward to exploring everything here.
What brought me here in the first place? To make a long story short, over 3 decades ago, I bought a brand new 510 while I was rehabing a house I owned. I primarily used it as a table saw. When I sold the house (at a nice profit), I bounced around from house to house until becoming an apartment dweller and was forced to put the 510 in storage.
After moving around from apartment to apartment and moving the 510 from storage unit to storage unit, I decided to sell it on Craig's list for $400. I hated to have to do that but...
Fast forward to now.....I once again have a place to use as a workshop. My first act was to look at buying a new Shopsmith and then came the sticker shock. But not giving up, I started by buying a used 520 on CL. Actually, I bought (3) 520's in various states of disrepair.
So now the journey begins....getting at least one of these machines up and running and making saw dust.

Welcome back to the zoo.
Since you likely did not take your first one apart, feel free to ask here how to do some stuff. Any thing is fair game and only stupid questions are the ones you were afraid to ask.
THREE 520's??

Thank-you.
Yes, I bought (3) used 520's (not all at the same time) thinking I would have enough parts to make at least one good machine. We'll see how this works out.

No, I don't know what a mini or shorty is? I'm guessing a much shorter version of the full length SS?

Yes and you have the stuff to make 'one' from.BluesMatt wrote:No, I don't know what a mini or shorty is? I'm guessing a much shorter version of the full length SS?
Are you familiar with the 'power station'? A mini makes an even better one.

Re: New here and introducing myself
Yep. And a handy adjunct to the full sized one. I use my shorty to run most of the accessories, as a drill press and, for all my more precise cross cuts. The full sized one is delegated to rips and, it has a router table hanging off one end.BluesMatt wrote:No, I don't know what a mini or shorty is? If you can put together two and make shorty of one, you'll be happy. I haven't ever regretted it.
