New guy here so i hope I am in the right place. The guy I bought my 1985 Mark V from threw in a Shopmate Super Quiet Dust Collector Model AE0133 which has been a great machine for 10 years. Until one morning it just sounded "tired", seemed to be slow. Shut it off and tried it again in 10 minutes and it was dead.
I have not been able to find any info on this machine anywhere. I was hoping somebody on here may be able to help. Mostly, I am wondering if it makes sense (if it is even possible) to replace the motor??

If it has a 'universal'(ac/dc)(rpm > 3600) motor, consider the brushes first.fletch211 wrote:New guy here so i hope I am in the right place. If I was in your shoes I would check with a local motor shop and see what they say.
Now don't quote me on this. I may be 100% wrong. But I seem to remember something along the lines that a company called Cincinnati Fan and Ventilation may have made it. I know they use to make the old style Delta dust collector.
Try Google. Not sure if they are still around or not. They were located in Cincinnati, Ohio. Blue Ash area. Just an hour south of Shopsmith.
The more I think about it, Maybe it was Shopvac who made it.

My dad had a good sized workshop and right now with my career I'm travelling way too much to do any major projects (and I'm exploring other fun hobbies) and would like the room for other things. You are right it's wonderfully quiet. I'm in FL...if you're interested in possibly having me send you the top (ie the motor) or if you're local you could pick up the whole thing including the attachments for extras....let me know and we can see if we can workout a price.

Yes, it is possible to replace the motor. I did it several years ago. I found a replacement motor at a shop that sold motors for vacuum cleaners. And I believe these units were built by ShopVac. At the time I did it, the motor ran about $100.00. Pull the motor and get the model information from it. Shop Vac most likely made your vac
My 25 year old ShopMate (like the pic from cincinnati) needed new filters some time ago. Shopsmith told me to call ShopVac for repair parts since SS no longer carried it.
My ShopMate died of old age recently or as the result of low voltage from an i-Socket. The i-Soket uses semiconductors and if it fails the wrong way your motor, like mine, receives low voltage which could be bad for some motors.
Whether mine failed due to that or otherwise, I replaced the failed i-Socket with an i-Vac. Recent posting on the Canadian website indicate the vac power was switched through a relay instead of semiconductors.

Don't need motor mine is working fine, but wet/dry bag is torn and i can't find a place to purchase one. if i can't find will gladly sell power head (motor) if u are interested. Email jerryprice@knology.net

I have the same vac, and a year ago mine had the same problem. I took the motor cover off and found the failure point was at the switch. Poor contact, high resistance due to sparking and pitting. Easy fix.

We used the wholesale division of The Henry Company for over 20 years. They were fast and reliable. If we called an order in by 11:00 AM, UPS dropped it off by noon the next day. We usually ordered about 3 times a week. Saved us from having to carry a huge inventory of odd-ball parts.
