Last spring was a ruff year for the early bees. The blossoms and bee have to come out about the same time and last spring that did not happen. So the occupancy of my bee house was very low last year. Now I can not speak to how other places fared but this is how is is here in my yard.
I was checking the few holes that I know are occupied today, since it is spring and even if the weather has not felt like spring today we are at 78. Low and behold we had one emerging. I managed a couple of pictures but we were off so I didn't get any of it completely out of the hole. They climb out and it takes a while before they fly off so I will keep watching to see if I can catch one of the others in the various stages. Would like to see a movie of them but that is just too much effort right now.
As you might know the holes with the mud are where the bees are, sometimes they never emerge, but most time I only find the empty holes that had been used without getting to see the bees.
My other bee house was also very lightly used. I have to go check and see if some have come out back there too.
