Purchase of new tooling
I am excited, I have purchased a Nova 3 chuck. I have never attempted to turn anything so this will be my first attempt. I think will will try something simple, can someone tell me if making ink pens are simple and easy item to start with?

for turning pen see the following link

you can get a Wood Lathe Pen Turning Mandrel 5/8" Shopsmith from e-bay
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Wood-Lathe-Pen ... xy87tSF3Yi
you could use a Nova chuck but it would be easier using the pen turning mandrel
the Nova chuck is better for larger pieces than pens

I think I'd go with Bud Vase - Twig Pot - Weed Pot all names for the same thing. They are about the cheapest thing you can turn since you are looking for branches from trees that people have cut down or branched and they are free.
