The vultures were circling over my head today

Post by reible »

Remember the old westerns where the guy would be out in the desert and the vultures were shown circling over head and the hero figured out where to look and save the day?

Did you ever wonder what the guy saw as he looked up?

On today's walk I spotted a group of turkey vultures sitting on the other side of the river and got a few pictures.

Most of them were immature, last years more then likely. A motor boat came by and they flew off but about an hour later I was walking in a clearing and saw shadows passing me, the shadows were of large birds, and yea they were the vultures. So I filmed them for just a short time. Sorry about all the wind noise but it was a windy day so that is how it goes.

The video can be see here:

It looks like the forest has decide it is spring, finally! Spring flowers were not everywhere but in enough places to make it quite a nice day for a walk among them.

Here are some examples:

Even the turtles seem to know it was spring and came out for some warming sun.

But my favorite part of the day was seeing the young owls. This was my first day of seeing them and that is always special.

Here is a picture with normal exposure:

But with the sun shining on the nest you can't really see the true picture of what they look like so I pushed this one 2 stops which then allows you to see how fuzzy they look. Mind you this is one of the older ones, the youngest is still very fuzzy.

When the youngest shows up you can see the difference.

I think there are three in the nest. The two older ones look pretty much the same with the younger one looking, well looking younger.

The problem trying to photograph them is the fact they get sleepy and tuck back down and sleep. In that case it just hole in a tree again.

Well at least they made it this far and so did I.
