12" planner knife adj gauge??

The picture I posted earlier is of my Gauge that I bought about two and a half years ago. Godavid2 who started this thread has a picture of his Gauge that he just bought which is the same as mine without a mark, just like mine came from the factory. It is the same as the one Nick uses in his video from 2008 that you linked. It appears they have been using the same Gauge since at least 2008 or before you got yours. I have not seen an early manual for the Planer and did not know of one with an arc. Maybe Godavid2 has the early manual and can post a picture of that Arc Gauge in use from the manual or someone else out there has the early Planer Manual and can enlighten us.

Mine dates back to 1988/1989 when I bought the ProPlaner. I believe it was delivered as part of the ProPlaner. I say that because I have no receipt/shipping document that lists the gauge. I had not heard of the one with an arc until this thread. Mark and/or no mark yes

We are not talking about the age of the gauge but the OLD version compared to the NEW version of the gauge. It has nothing to how old (your definition) your gauge is.

I made some minor changes John just for you. Maybe you can tell me. Is the gauge with an arc the older gauge or the younger gauge?

I think that since the 'current' gauge has the straight edge that it is a 'newer' gauge.

I will attempt to get a pix of my 'older' gauge.

It came with my second hand planer which has the round height knob so it is an older version planer. I do not know it's age.

I have a Shopsmith mounted planer.

The manual that came with it is marked PL-5049 1/85, on the back, on the front it is date stamped DEC 7 1986 (presumably the shipping date}.. Inside it shows alignment using the older style (rounded) gauge.

It also came with a supplement marked PL-5072 2/85, on the back, on the front it is date stamped DEC 7 1986. This one shows alignment using the newer style (straight) gauge. The supplied gauge is the newer style.

My manual is 1982 vintage. I assume it came with my planer.

So I think we can say that 85/86 was the switch over era.

So Dusty's 25 yr old gauge should be the 'newer' version,

Thanks to those who assisted. Mystery solved. My old gauge is the newer version. Both work on basically the same principle.

Thanks russ, I marked my planner gauge 7/16" and the adjustments look good.

I hope this means that you have resolved your adjustment problem.
