I use the Shopsmith Guide and the Wolverine, they each do something the other won't. If I had the space and money I would probably have the Tormek also as it is an outstanding system.
That's right, Jim. I'm sure you could end up paying well into the thousands if you buy all the bells and whistles along with the Tormek.

hoagie,
$50-$100 delivery??? what delivery service do you use? I bought a good 6" bench grinder with a gooseneck lamp for $30 and 2 white, aluminum oxide, wheels (60 & 120 grit) for $20 each. I bought the Wolverine jig for $80 and the Vari-grind for $50. I use a $15 diamond dressing tool and don't need the skew sharpening jig. This totals out to a little over $200... still less than just the basic Tormek 2006. I guess, all I'm trying to say is, you don't have to mortgage the house to get a top of the line sharpening system. It depends on what you want and are willing to spend.

After this posting on chisel sharpening, I decided that was my project for today. I took several hours, but I feel good about the results. This was my 1st time using the SS sharpening jig. Now I need to actually use them for something.

I bought some pen parts, and this cool telescoping magnet. I've been reading another post on pen turning and finishing. I think I have everything except the finish and the glue. That EE finish stuff sure seems expensive. So what glue should I be using for pens?

Glue for Pen inserts

Post by jimthej »

I personally like medium set epoxy(15 min), our shop teacher really likes Gorilla Glue. I tried it but got glue starved inserts that peeled upon turning. Remember to scratch up the outside of the insert before gluing. Helps it to get a better bond.

Some like epoxy and some super glue. I have tried both and lean more to the epoxy because it will fill voids better than the super glue. I guess it just depends on the individual preference. I have to agree with Nick as far as Gorilla Glue is concerned. It's not worth using especially on pens.
