Anyone had to tear into the Strip Sander?

I went to put on the sanding belt, pushed down on the tensioner pulley, and the whole pulley assembly stayed down. Looks like the spring popped out of its guide. Tensioner bolt was loose.

The problem with mine is the tracking control knob. After disassembly, and thank you JPG for your great pictures, I found the plastic knob portion of the tracking control knob is threaded into the full metal threaded stud that actually moves the tracking pulley.



The metal threaded portion of the plastic knob was loctited into the threaded stud at one point. Mine was loose. This allowed the stud to thread in but could not be threaded out! It was jammed all the way in. I was able to get a grip on the stud from the inside and thread it out.


Getting the c clip off was a chore and rendered useless by the time I finished with it. I will need to find a replacement.

This should allow me to get it back up and running. I did have to purchased the two eccentrics to mount the darn thing from SS.

Well I DID say it was easier to put on than to get it off!

Snap ring pliers are a must!!!

You can probably 'form' the ring back to near 'normal' to use until a replacement arrives.

And... I bought a brand new set of snap ring pliers, made in the USA, just for the job, $19.99 + tax!

Did not work worth a darn for this application.

Those very small rings require very good pliers.

IIRC I needed to help get it off by gentle prying with a screw driver while simultaneously squeezing the pliers.

Harbor Freight pliers were not up to the task.

My 'good' pliers have replaceable/different sized tips.

What brand are they? I may have to return mine. I wanted a good set.
