My shop is pretty much in a constant state of flux. I have had issues with keeping my lathe jaws in order and somewhat organized. That is no longer totally the case. Today's project took care of at least some of that.

I started with making some sketchup drawings exploring layouts of the various items I wanted in the drawer. After several attempts and a couple of changes to what I could fit in I was able to find something that looked like it should be what I need.

Since I have a Shaper Origin this seemed like a good project to use it on. I'm also beta testing a sketchup plug in that generates the files that Shaper likes. So I was actually doing several projects at the same time.

This is the sketchup drawing for the drawer divider I wanted to make:

I used 1/4 nominal MDF, actually ran about .22". I used some double sided tape to tape the board to some of that pink foam insulation sheet that I like to cut on. What was interesting is that the shaper can set the depth of cut such that I could cut through the material but less then the thickness of the tape.... so the bit doesn't even touch the pink insulation.

I didn't take many photos but this is what the board looked like after the routing had been done:

Just after this I used my guided saw system to cut the board to size. Yes I could have used the router but why??

Then I emptied the drawer and put the insert in and filled it up. The end results looks like this:

So one down and hundreds to go.........

Very slick, Ed. I wouldn’t have believed it, but if you keep it up you might just sell me on a Shaper Origin. I’m working on a project right now where it would come in handy.

Those are the ones from Nova and I like them very much. I find I use the two larger sizes more then the smaller one but that might just be because of the work I have been doing.

When I first saw the Stebs Centers I wanted them and of course at the time they were strictly Morris taper versions but then they solved that issue for me by making them fit in the chuck. The center pin is spring loaded so no large amount of pressure tying to split your work piece, a really nice design.

I did have a pair of cheaper ones but they turned out to not be very durable, so if you want decent ones get at least the ones from Nova.

I've not done a run out test but they seem to work fine and I have seen no issues with them. They are designed to work in the Nova chucks which is what I have so I'd expect them to work fine.
