I do understand the "PO" part.

Maybe a bit over the top reaction?

You are entitled to your opinion buckwheat LOL, but for me a 60 cent not in stock just throws me over the edge, broke the camels back, was the last straw ... got it?

To be honest, I have had hell (by comparison to the other machines) with this Mark 7, all PowerPro problems, all nitpick issues and "I'm sorry we are out of stock of that item" continuing problem.

I am just not comfortable, or happy, with how this company operates and it's recent history.

So, yes it is my reaction, it is based on experience, and I have lost patience with them. I have options, most of which I don't like, but I am going to try to eliminate the frustration.....

True, but I think they were all cup tips, at least in the beginning. Were there any "common" set screws back then that were other than cup?

Quill stop/anti-rotation was half dog.

Arbor set screws were oval.

Eccentric retainer set screw was cone.

Yes most others(assembly fasteners) were cup point.

The anti-twist bench tube monster was oval.(first slotted, then hex socket).

Nylock was another variant.

I did say I understood the 'PO' part. I share your concerns re recent events(as I think we all do).

I continue to 'hope' it will all wash out (SOON!). I am concerned re managements apparent lack of awareness.

A single straw does not a bed make. Methinks the straw has had too many burrs.

My bet is that his came loose and fell out. That is what happened to the fellow with the index/fan piece. His came out, but as it came loose, it scored the shaft making pulling it off difficult.

I am glad Dick found a solution for his.

Everyone likely knows that Teknatool builds the DVR Motor that Shopsmith and NOVA lathes use.

Seems Nova has some power-on issues, just like Shopsmith does Seems Nova has RPS1 Errors RPS0 Errors, Low Voltage Errors, Start/Stop Fault, and hmmn... rattling noises due to set screws that come out....

One of the most salient comments shows up in the snapshot of issues below where they state of all things..... that the technician didn't call them back.

Don't know how we can leverage pressure on Teknatool to support Shopsmith in supporting us... but that may be where the disconnect is.

I thought the Grub Screw being used as a back-up to prevent the first one from coming out was just something out of my past work experience, but it apparently is common knowledge of sorts at Teknatool that the 2nd set screw is a good idea....

OK, been in the shop using the M7 getting this gift finished for my wife's friend. Wanted to get it done before something else on the Mark 7 breaks ....

To answer JPG's and Ed's question, it is a 5mm with .80 pitch. I put locktite on it so we will see what happens. The set screw came out and was lost. It needs a 2.5 mm allen wrench for removal and installation.

I am more PO'd at Shopsmith for running a very shabby operation. If I put dedicated machines in my shop (after measuring and doing some research) I would be shooting myself in the foot, so I will get along to get along. I hope they get their shit together soon. This can't be good for business.

I know you are frustrated and I understand why you are but I think you (and others) here on the forum are much too quick to "blame Shopsmith".

Yes, there are issues and Shopsmith needs to acknowledge (at least internally) that these issues exist. More importantly, they need to show evidence that they do know of them and that they are working toward solid resolution.

Let us not do what we seem to be so anxious to do. Spreading this sort of discontent in the open media can/will do nothing more than make things worse. I am not saying ignore the facts but don't bitch here without having spoken to "MANAGEMENT" at Shopsmith.

I do mean "MANAGEMENT" and Customer Service is NOT MANAGEMENT.
