ER10 Jigsaw Upper Chuck Repair/Replacement

Post by Ludwigrc »

Hello all,

I have inherited an ER10 and just got it up and working. The table saw works great and I am working on the jigsaw. I am having problems with the upper chuck to the jigsaw. The dog allen set screw has pushed against the chuck block enough to shove the collar that holds the set screw out of the alloy metal head. The collar is so loose the chuck block is unable to hold a scroll saw blade.

Does anyone know if there is a replacement head that one can purchase, or do I need to somehow build a new upper chuck? I have looked online for a while and I have not been successful in finding anything except for old jigsaws that don’t look that good. Any suggestions will help.

Thanks, Robert

Can you take some pictures? It might help seeing what you are dealing with. The jigsaw works very well when setup BTW

Sounds like there was a proverbial "two hundred pound gorilla" in it's past. :)

Just had a look at mine. The threaded insert would appear to have been pressed in, or possibly cast into the head. You could try using CA glue or epoxy to to secure it in place. You would want to use something fairly thin so it would wick in. Heating the part (not too hot) would make epoxy more runny but set faster.

Hi "rpd".

Yes, the colar was pressed into the head. I had someone suggest cleaning both pieces, slightly sand the color down so it sits a bit deeper in the head, using threadlock, and pein the alloy slightly over the edge of the colar to help keep it in place.

Looked good before the picture disappeared. We'll keep our fingers crossed that it stays where it belongs.
