truck bed storage

Post by Smitho »

Anyone here who has created a homemade truck bed for extra storage? I found this idea on Youtube. Seems easy to build compared to other truck accessories.

Long ago I did something similar for a little Nissan pickup with shell that I had. No drawers, but had side storage areas plus removable platform sections over the middle area. It allowed me to keep some tools and such in the storage area without them sliding around and I would occasionally sleep on the platform when camping. Mine was not attached in any way, so could remove it all quickly if needed, but I always kept the platform pieces either raised or laying on the bed so that the side "boxes" wouldn't move.

Hi Roy. It's an interesting project to do for the truck bed. I like that you can use it for camping. Was it easy to build? I'm planning to do some drawers so I can put in some stuff.

As I recall, it wasn't all that difficult to build, but mine was a pretty simple design. Simple tools used also, cheap circular saw, drill, simple hand tools. I built the side frames using 2x2s, probably 3/8 plywood skin, 1x4s for bracing the center panels, screwed together. Wasn't pretty, but served me well for several years.
