When I saw the request for information on the other thread it sounded familiar but since it was only Marc's second posting I was not sure. It is interesting they called them a 10E in Australia when in the US they were already 10ER's. The Headstock is not one of the seven US versions I have seen. Marc's has the wide Spring Housing cast on blocks that began with the 5th US version but still has the double quill Lock and no keyed wedge from the first three versions. When the US headstock versions started the wide Spring Housing cast on blocks they already had the keyed double wedge quill lock. The next headstock change was the single wedge locks.

The fence is an earlier version having the straight lock knob as opposed to the angled one that would be with the later headstocks. That fence replaced the original one that did not have the rear lock when the extension table was changed from wood to metal. The Extension table on Marc's 10E look a little odd also, having a smooth top. Is it the one that came with it? I see in the pictures two extension tables from the bottom that look like the bottom of the ribbed top ones. Marc's 10E has the earlier Feed Lever Knobs. It is an interesting mix of parts compared to the US timeline.

Hi Russ,
the table saw came with two of the same smooth top extensions with the same fence locking rail. I should have more done tonight and hopefully Everett can post some more pictures, Everett has been a huge help so far and I can't be more grateful for the help.

Marc,

I am at a point where I need you to post in this thread any new photos you desire to share.

Take what you have, copy them to a separate folder, use Microsoft Office Picture Manager or equivalent to resize the height to 1180 pixels and save the file.

You can then upload it to the forums as you deem necessary.

Hi Everett,

Firstly, thank you for all the leg work you have done, I wouldn't have come this far or learnt so much about a great the American icon had it not been for your hard work and effort.

I've worked the last few days and am heading off for the next few, I have taken a stack of pictures to try and capture as much as I could while cleaning the unit.
Once I get a day free I will upload them. I am still deciding whether to paint my machine or leave it, I've decided it will be the centrepiece of my garage so i'm trawling the internet for a jointer attachment to free up just that little bit more room.

I will try to get some pictures of the friction locks on the quill and way as the soft metal has suffered over the years, it has become swollen, separated and jammed in the pockets, using a punch I've managed to free them but they have broken apart in the process so I'll be looking around for some.

In the pictures I will post the tooling as there's some that I'm not sure of their purpose. Hopefully by the end of the week.

Hi Marc,
You said

I am not sure if you are wanting the Magna 4" Jointer Model 4E or looking to get the 2-1/2" Jointer Head and using the Jointer/Shaper Fence. If you are wanting the Model 4E Jointer they come up for sale from time to time but usually are not complete for mounting and running on the Model 10's. Besides the Jointer itself it needs the Jointer Headrest and mounting bracket along with the motor pulley adapter to add the 5" pulley, essential if you are using a Speed Changer. The pulley setup is the hardest to find. Add to that the 1-3/4" Pulley on the Jointer and 32" Belt. We do not know for sure when the Jointer came out but it was during the last year or two the Model 10ER was made in the US (1952-53). The only manuals I have seen for it are from 1953. It is not a commonly found accessory for the Model 10's.

Magna did make an adapter set to use the SPT's, like the Jointer, made for the Mark 5 so getting a Model 620 or later 4" Jointer is an option. The Model 620 Jointer is the same Jointer as the 4E with the addition of the Mark 5 SPT mounting tubes. Later in the 1950's the Depth of Cut Adjustment Knob & Shaft and the Fence Lock parts were changed to the current version. The current part sets are a direct replacement for the early 620 and 4E parts. If you cannot get the original adapters, Skip Campbell makes and sells adapters for this under his business MKC Tools.

If you decide to go with the 2-1/2" Jointer Head and a fence they are very common and easy to find. I would however recommend using the Shaper Fence that fits the Mark 5/V 500 table instead of the Jointer/Shaper Fence specifically for the Model 10's. It has longer in-feed and out-feed fence boards. This fence was first made for the Model 10's.

Below are three manuals which will help explain how all this works.
