Another day of the life of this squirrel

Post by reible »

We have a couple of squirrels living in our squirrel box and now that they can't raid the feeders anymore we decided to give them their very own snack station.

Picked this up at the Menard's store:

Turns out the really love it. They love eating it, they love guarding it from each other, many a chase happening, and they are spending a lot of the day dealing with the new treat. They have spent hours doing this:

This is from early this morning and it is snowing but the guard duty must be done so you fluff your tail and do your duty.

It has been so much fun I'm going to add another one to see how they deal with this development. Can't guard them both or will they try?

Anyone catch the PBS show "A Squirrel's Guide to Success". This link might allow you to watch it, for me they said until Dec 12th.

Does this really keep them from raiding the bird feeder? If so I will have to get me one.

No but these feeders work great at keeping them away from the seeds:

Then as we always need proof here is a video of what happens a lot when you first get the feeders:

Looked out yesterday and no squirrel on the post, and more important no "corn". At first I thought they just finished it off, no big deal I have fresh one to put up but when I went out I found they had somehow got the wing nut off! No wing nut, no washer and no sigh of the remaining "corn".

So I guess I will have to add a lock nut. Would have loved to see how they did it and if it were not for the fact the wing nut is a M5 I'd try it again just for fun. I think I will for go the wing nut and just use to regular nuts locked together. Well I can add that to my todo list for the day.
