Got the filling done on the backside but damp and cool conditions means it was to wet to sand today. Rain on the way tomorrow so it might be a couple more days to get the final sanding and stain.

I did prototype the trunk as I now see it.... may make a few adjustments as time goes on.

Yesterdays progress was I sanded then refilled as needed and sanded again. I also managed to get it stained green.

If it warms enough I will do the trunk today, some router work mostly and then start trying to figure out where I will find space to put the clear coat on in the garage. The finish asks for 55 degrees, so the heater will have to be on. I hope to do it in two coats but three is more likely.

Maybe some progress pictures later today.

Finished it up today. It is outside but not where it will end up. Will do that tomorrow.

Sorry about all the shadows, might get a better picture with it later.

Found a spot I think works for the tree, of course it daylight so at night I might not like it and the wife has not seen it yet either so it is just sitting there, pending approval and how it looks at night.

Glad this is done or the building part of it anyway. Time to move in to other projects.

Tree pretty much vanishes at night, but I'm OK with that.

About a year later and I'm having to do a lot of repairs to the tree. The green stain vanished. Some of the clear coat didn't make it either but the green is almost totally gone.

So this years changes are to repair some of the filler which cracked out and then I'm going to do a paint job.

I'm wondering if the tree would show up better at night if it were white??? I'm going to test that as the undercoat is white and I can set it up and have a look. Now if it were to snow, and it will, then the white might not be as desirable.

Got a good start, one side is painted, the other side has had the filler fixes done and sanded once, missed a couple of places with the filler so those are fixed now to wait for it to dry and then sand.

Didn't plan to do it all today but it would be nice to get the undercoat on the other side at least.

I've had the tree out for a while now and like this years new look. We found a projector that is called "Northern Lights" and that is what its decoration is this year.

I shot a video of it, just 30 seconds but you can see what it looks like if you want. It is at:

I wish I had got back to Lowe's when they still had some in stock. Would have like to have a second and perhaps third one. Well maybe they will have them again next winter.
