As usual, a real nice looking piece. Keep them coming.

As to snow tires, I hadn't heard of the impregnated (:D ) ones either. It is now law up here in Quebec to have snow tires from Dec. 15-Mar 15. That has caused a problem with supply, not only here but in neighbouring provinces as well, as many people did not have them in previous years. It causes another problem for the "snowbirds" heading south. If they leave after Dec 15, they need a permit for regular tires to get to the border and back in the spring. Ain't bureaucracy grand! I'm not againt the law, as it has been proven that snow tires prevent accidents, but enforcing it and the side effects are cumbersome if not comical. Vistors are exmpt so anyone is welcome to come enjoy the snow. Studded tires are allowed but only for about four months as they do tear up the road.

Going back in my memory bank I can recall my dad using tires with sawdust and also walnut shells in them. Seems he prefered these over metal studded tires because he said the metal ones were just to noisy. Now I also remember what a terrible driver my dad was so maybe the noise distracted him to much. We lived in norther part of Oregon about 60 miles south east of Portland. In winter we did get a lot of snow so he always made sure that he had a set of winter tires for his vehicle. I fortunely don't have to contend with them living here in northern California. Seldom get snow here along the ocean, but we don't have to go far to get into it either.
My thanks go out to everyone on these forums, not only for the information you all share with each other but it gives me a feeling of a lot of friends that I just haven't met as yet. Looking forward to the day when I meet you all.

Chuck, great chair! Thanks for sharing the detailed shot of the joint that you used, that is inspirational for us novice woodworkers.

Snow, I left Illinois to get away from the terrible weather but now I'm longing for Alaskan wilderness even if snow accompanies it all.
