Last Christmas Project (no Pics)

I was making an outdoor pallet wood patterned Christmas tree from Winfield to use as a backdrop for my outdoor polar bears. This project was coming down to the wire when we heard one of our grandsons had neglected to water his live indoor tree and it sort of disintegrated.

Grandma came to the rescue and decided we would give him the pallet wood tree which was literaly finished around 10:00am on the 24th. It was delivered to his house around 11.00am while he was at work, set up with lights, and presents placed under the tree. (hence no pics).

Every body is happy!

We will let you slide on the pictures this time but I'd like to know which tree you made from the catalog?

The plan was the fir tree pattern # W1861 in the Winfield Collection.

As usual, I modified some things. I used a couple of partial 3/8" and 1/2" plywood sheets I had hanging around instead of pallet wood as called for, cut into 3" strips. All but one of equal thickness lined up so that was not a problem. For the star on top, I used 1/2" wood for the four large points and 3/8" for the smaller ones to give it some depth perception. I also used 2 coats Hunter Green cloured outdoor paint, thinned down instead of the colours suggested. Dear wife used a sponge and white paint to dab "snow" on the top portion of branches.

We had Christmas dinner with our grandson last night and he was both surprised and happy to come home and find he had a tree. Of course I let him know that this counts as two presents, indoor tree this year and outdoor next year

That is the one I like best! The one I made is very much like that one and I like how i looks. I do hope we get to see it. What a wonderful gift!
