Next project before I start cranking out wood. Make a dust collector like Jim Roadifer https://youtu.be/rCVBWPOr09M He's doing it on a Mark with more spacious table slot than my 10er. I only have 3 inches which doesn't leave much with 2" pvc. Used the Dado set that came with it again to carve out the ends of a 3" wide slab of nylon I recived as a gift.
Then bought another HF horror to make the 2 3\8" hole in a 2x4. Going to put 4 screws into it & see if it holds up. If not i'll have to make 2 piece of nylon.
Finished and it works perfect. Catches 90% of the saw dust. Most of the dust in the picture after cutting 6 1/8" shims was from forgetting to turn on the Shopvac for one cut after I changed the shot 8" to a new Skill 7 1/4".
I used a 3" long piece of thin wall 2" 45% ell & a female adapter. Shopvac hose screws in tight.

Why would you want to do this? I know I would feel a lot safer have a lower saw guard. If you accidentally reached under the table while the saw was running, this would be a very dangerous setup. Do you not have a lower saw guard for your Shopsmith?

10ER's came with an upper guard, but not a lower.
There was a lower guard sold as an accessory, but they are extremely rare.
I use a lower guard for a Mark 5 on mine, but don't have it connected to dust collection.

The YouTube video that was posted shows this on a Mark V (500). Haven't these always had a lower saw guard, or did the 500 also start with no lower saw guard?
The Mark 5 did NOT come with either guard. Optional extra cost only.
But that was almost 60 yrs ago.
