Never thought of using a Mark V lower guard on my 10er. How does it fit? Any modifications needed?

I was inspired by an article by Skip Campbell that I found in the files section on the Yahoo forum.

The older Mark V saw guards can be modified to fit the 10ER.
The guard is too wide and hits the table supports so that the
blade cannot be centered in the insert slot. To fix this I cut
1/2" off the side of the casting on the band saw. Then I drilled
the mounting holes for the sheet metal part of the guard about
3/4" deep and tapped to receive the original mounting screws.
The collar on the quill is the same size (or close to it) as the
Mark V quill so the guard mounts as usual. If necessary you can
drill or grind away part of the guard if it hits the nut on the
depth stop rod. This set up works fine except for bevel cuts and
wide dado cuts. The guard will not advance so that the blade can
be centered in the insert when making bevel cuts.
You can use the dado insert
to compensate for this but it leaves a dangerously wide gap on
the right side of the blade. I personally would rather remove the
guard and use the regular saw insert for bevel cuts or a custom
table insert could be made to allow bevel cuts.

From the photos it would appear that he has used a Mark V-500 1 1/4" arbor. On mine, using the original 10ER arbor with the thin washer on the quill side, removing 1/2" would be too much. I think 1/8 to 3/16" would be about right, but I haven't done it yet. Without modification the screw heads hit the table tubes and I have to leave the end plate off to get proper alignment of the blade in the table insert.
