I happen to be looking for some Jacobs information too. Here is their customer service information (including a 1-800 number). http://www.danaher.com/business/niche_division.asp?key=83

Ed comes through again!
From the Jacobs Technical Support page:reible wrote:Yet another option is to go to a local hardware store with chuck in hand. I know I've gotten a key at Ace for my shopsmith.

Where can I buy a spare key?
You can buy the spare key through our distribution Partners or national retailers and hardware stores- Lowe's, Home Depot, Sears Tools, Ace Hardware and True Value Stores.

It has been my experience with items of this type that Shopsmith data will NOT include a common part number that one might use to purchase replacement parts. In this case, I can not even find a Shopsmith number for just the key.
The chuck and key (505633) is on sale for $36.44.
ACE is the place, your friendly hardware man.
BTW Tim, being in your line of work, I hope you didn't just now learn that from "reliable reible".

You might think so, but Ace does knot sell a thing that I use in my business, that I can knot get for less, elsewhere, and most things that I use, they do knot sell at all. They do sell 10' pieces of steel 4" K style gutter, but I buy coils of aluminum flat stock (300 to 500 pounds each) and feed them through a machine to make seamless gutters. My wholesale supplier has everything I need for my work, except lumber. They even have a downspout machine that will make custom lengths of downspout, and elbow machines that will make custom elbows in what ever angle I need. Where I live, we have every hardware store that is on "Jacobs list", but the local lumber yard that we buy from is a True Value hardware store, so I do knot visit Ace very often. As for tools, I generally get them from wholesale houses too. Honestly, I never wood have thought to go to the hardware store for a chuck key. But it does make sense.
