Lolita must confine her correspondence to east of the Big Muddy. No message from her here, either.

Nope.

Time to click on "delete". The best way to handle spammers and scammers it to ignore them as much as possible. That way you win and they lose.

I wholeheartedly agree but it is a bit disconcerting that a PM can be scammed. How did the unwanted text get embedded into the private message? Does this indicate that the OP's computer has been violated?garys wrote:Time to click on "delete". The best way to handle spammers and scammers it to ignore them as much as possible. Re: Private Message SPAM
I assumed the 'text' was the only thing in the PM. IF as you said it was somehow scammed into annother's PM text, than I was wrong. I assumed Lolita was the spammer.dusty wrote:I wholeheartedly agree but it is a bit disconcerting that a PM can be scammed. How did the unwanted text get embedded into the private message? Re: Private Message SPAM
I do think Lolita is the spammer. The question I have is how did it work its way into a PM. Obviously, I don't understand the workings of my computer.

Lolita sent the PM the same way as I wood send you a PM. But I wood think that that way wood be to time consuming for them.

If you look any day at the bottom of the main forum page, you will see something like
"There are 200 users, 5 registered" . I'd guess there aren't 200 actual users or we would have a lot more lively discussions on the forum. Most of these anonymous "users" are likely web bots.
It isn't hard for me to imagine creating an account on this site and then building some scripting to spam PM messages to the user list.
I dont know if the user list is available to people, but active users could certainly be gleaned from the forum posts.
This is all easily doable. Its also all easily controllable but would require the host to improve security of their systems I think. not sure there is $ for that...especially to protect the 10-30 active users on the site.
