Very Unusual

Post by dusty »

With all that has been happening here on the forum, does this sort of thing arouse your curiosity?

This person is online right now, joined in 2006 and has not posted until now (2019).

First of all I doubt it is an actual person. I did not see what he posted. Was it spam?

Given all the BOT's creating registrations lately I would not believe the original join date. Maybe now they are faking the original join date so they don't show up as a new user so the moderators don't notice until they post.

Oh I think 'he' is merely a lurker. Nothing wrong with that! What does not show is how often 'he' lurked.

well seems strange ...but... I am currently a member of a COPD forum that I have never posted on, just haven't had anything to contribute, been a member since 2015...sooo this is not strange to me. I like reading about what folks with my condition are doing and new drugs etc.... by being a member I get email notifications for threads I flag that are of interest...could be that guy does the same. Long as no spam is coming from him, don't see the problem.

No posts in 13 years, put no data (location, age, interests) in profile but lurks. I doubt it but maybe.

But, at the same time I do not believe this to be a bot. Were there bots 13 years ago?

Still another membership oddity.

This "new member" appears to have never been here -- Joined on 26 Aug but has never been active. Can that happen? I'll be watching for this to happen again.

I am beginning to believe that this is a way for someone to join the forum "unnoticed" and then after laying low for awhile do their dastardly deed (whatever that is) as an insider.

One other point that I notice is that this "person" has no association with a website.

My son joined a few years ago after he got a SS but has only posted a couple of times. I know that he lurks and reads the threads but does not post often if ever in the last couple of years.

I'm not a bit alarmed or even just concerned about members who browse the forum without posting.

My greatest concern is for those whose profile indicates that they are from offshore and/or have links to websites inappropriate for association with Shopsmith. When profiles are left almost completely blank I become cautious.
