Hello, I am a brand new owner of a Shopsmith Mark V 510. Firstly, thank you for all the incredible documentation here and on the Google Drive link for Shopsmith owners.
I have just bought a 510 with the bandsaw attachment.
I am currently performing cleaning and maintenance as described in the manual and here in the forum.
Also, could you look at the pictures of the speed control I will post. It looks almost "misthreaded" to me. It is sticky and does not turn fluidly. I know not to turn it with the machine off but I'm so sure about the previous owners though.
Update: I added a picture of the gear. I cleaned it with mineral oil removing all the gunk.
Thank you,
Jeff

On the first page of Shopsmith Large Format Drawings Illustrations and More in Maintenance and Repair Forum, down just below the My Google Drive link, download the Bill Mayo Headstock Improvement Kit document.
It outlines in detail with photos, how to inspect, repair and adjust the Speed Control Mechanism.
The late Bill Mayo’s vast experience within that document will get you on the right path.
