Lowe's Demo in Layton, UT

Post by jsburger »

Went to the SS demo yesterday an talked to Mike Young for about 2 hours. Great time. While I was there the owner of the SS store in Salt Lake in the 80's and a demonstrator showed up. Nice conversations.

I showed them my copy of PTWFE that belonged to Hans Goldschmidt and signed by the author R. J. DeCristoforo to the inventor of the SS Hans Goldschmidt. Pristine original first addition 1953.

Anyhow, Mike asked me to look at the way tubes on his machine. "What do you see"? They looked nice and shiny like all of his demo tools. Anyhow they are stainless steel and he said these tubes will be on new machines and sometime in the future the bench tubes will be stainless steel.

He also confirmed that all the old CS personnel are gone as we know. To paraphrase him, they are hiring $10 an hour people that don't have any desire to provide you with service or even know the product.

Jim McCann (SP) is back after a bout with spinal cancer. Apparently they got it (for now). Mike said manufacturing was a mess when he was gone.

Well, I had a good customer service experience recently when the customer service person took the initiative to go to the owner to overrule the engineering department.

Well, that is good. Maybe training is making a difference.

Hopefully Jim McCann will get rid of the silly engineer consultation nonsense.

Maybe that was initiated due to a total lack of product knowledge in CS.

I wonder if the stainless tubes would be offered in the way of an upgrade?

Once the Stainless tubes become the norm they should be available as repair parts.

John, as shown by your experience it's always nice to be able to chat with Mike at these demos. He didn't have the stainless tubes yet when he was here. I brought him a picture of 10E S/N 1077 for his collection. This year he sold me my Lift Assist. I'm not getting any younger and it makes putting it into Drill Press mode much much easier. It disconnects quickly to tilt it the other way.
