Best type of drill bits for wood??

I need to get a set of drill bits for wood drilling. Which is better, the spade bit type or the corkscrew type? Also, what is a good brand? Where I can find good information? Thanks!!

For holes up to an inch, the bradpoint twist drills CAN be used. Bradpoints help keep the bit from wandering at the start of the hole. For holes from 1/4" up through 2" , I use the Forstner type bit. Beyond 2", I prefer a hole saw.
I can't recommend any brands. Only what I'm happy with. My twist drills are a 29 pc. set of Dewalt. My Forstners are a boxed set of 14 Porter Cables. They go from 1/4" through 2" . Forstners should only be used in a drill press.

The hole also determines the bit , if you need a flat bottom hole , if it matters, or, if it is a through hole and then how deep do you need to drill . I agree with Gene Howe about the brands , also dont forget a good sharpener and a small file for spade bits .JMO
