New Tailstock Extension

After about 30 large green bowls I finally bent the quill shaft on my Mark7. I was turning another large, heavy green 15" bowl. I couldn't use the tailstock for support because of the size. Anyway, I build this heavy-duty tailstock extension that allows the tool rest to sit to the right of a live center. I used the existing tailstock and a tailstock chuck arbor to support and align the right end of the new tailstock extension. I used a MT2 – MT2 extension that is removable on the left end. The three-point hookup provides plenty of support. Stronger than the original. This also has the added benefit of strengthening the tailstock when drilling a hollow turning or spindle. So far it has worked out great.
I'm not a great welder but they will work.

Looks good and very sturdy. I was wondering about turning large green bowl blanks on the Mark V...sorry to hear about the bent quill shaft from woodturning. Did you also weld up the toolrest shown here?

I am also interested in the chip containment system, blue tarp, could we get a picture and description of that too.

Yes I've made several special tool rest for different uses.
Easy to do with but you need a welder.

I can't take credit for the chip system. I got that from Pinterest. Again easy to make. I made a few changes for what I needed. I used a free blue tarp from Harbor Freight and sewed the Velcro on it. Sure helps to keep the water and chips in one area.
