Parts Identification, Mark 500

I am new to Shopsmith and recently acquired a Mark 500 which came with a bandsaw, jointer, scroll/jig saw, belt sander and planer. I have no previous experience with any of the equipment. I just want to learn how to use the equipment and do projects around the house as needed. I have been busy looking at videos by Doug Reid, Jacob Anderson and the resources available on the Shopsmith's website. I have a couple of Shopsmith Manuals but the learning process is slow and overwhelming so I am taking it very slow and reading the manuals. I need help identifying the following components and information regarding their use. Thanks in advance!

The two of diamonds is one of the sides of a 12" surface planer. Probably the left or drive hub side (or motor pulley side, depending on whether yours is a Mark V mounted or stand mounted version). Not the right side with feed motor, which would have 4 holes for mounting the feed motor. Possibly the right side if it ever was a manual feed.

Besides the arbors, I have no idea what most of the rest of the pieces are, so like you, anxious to find out!

The 3 of spades and the 8 of hearts items are not parts I recognize as Shopsmith parts. As for the 2 of hearts parts I only recognize one as a Shopsmith part. I do not know what the longer shaft like assembly and loop parts are but the one on the upper right goes to the Belt Sander and is the shaft cover when not using a sanding drum on the opposite side of the drive shaft. The drive shaft goes all the way through and allows the use of a sanding drum with the belt for multiple sanding surfaces at one time instead of switching back and forth. You can mount a sanding disk to the quill at the same time for three different sanding surfaces.

As for the other items already identified, Brenda has already given the information to correctly identify the arbors. From left to right for the 5 of hearts they are the Screw Center Lathe Drive, an incomplete 5/8" Universal Arbor. an incomplete 1/2" Shaper Arbor and a 1/2" Router Chuck. The queen of hearts is the Mark V 510/520 5/8” Saw Arbor.

There will be an update coming for the arbor information as I recently found a ½” Wheel Arbor P/N AK-1003 which Shopsmith sold but I believe they bought these from another supplier and repackaged them. I think this was a replacement for another function of the 1/2" Universal Arbor other than using as a Shaper Spindle which is what it was changed to. Sorry I am getting off topic.

The 2 of diamonds item does look like a Planer part and more specifically the cover for the manual feed crank but the one I have is different in that the crank is attached to the cover with a retaining clip and the hole looks smaller. That may just be the difference seeing a picture of the cover only compared to the actual item with the crank attached. Post a picture of the Planer specifically the feed side. You can compare this part with the feed side cover on your Planer.

You also said you got a scroll/jig saw but they are two different saws. Do you know which one it is?

The 2♦ is the drive shaft cover for the planer.

The 8♥ resembles the corner base for a 'miter pro', but is NOT a SS part.

Thanks to you I found where the missing cover plate goes. I also found out that I am missing a safety key which I will procure from Shopsmith in the future. It should have been obvious but I overlooked the obvious. Once i stood along side of the machine, I saw the four screw holes. Thanks for your help!

The cover was removed and replaced by the pulley guard on the planer. It may have been a Mark Mount planer changed to a stand. I noticed the picture of a Mark Mount in your picture. That would explain the larger hole as compared to the hand crank feed cover. Mine is the Pro Planer like yours is now. I haven't physically seen a Mark Mount first hand to see the differences between the Mark Mount and Pro Planers, just the Manuals to compare the differences. Most of the parts are the same but some are different. Replacement items like blades, feed rollers and other parts that wear are the same but the table, mounting and a few other parts, like the drive shaft cover, are different. The Safety Key may be in stock now. It is part number 513441 and is $4.99. There is someone selling a replacement one on ebay.

As for the Lathe Screw Center it looks like the screw is there and is inverted as it is shipped.
