What is this?
I am a novice Shopsmith user. Today I purchased a Shopsmith Model 500 with a 520 table upgrade. I did look at the Shopsmith.com website. It looks like the lower saw guard is used for all(505.510.520) of the Model 500 Shopsmiths. I noticed the lower guard is missing a screw but I will replace it. What are the two plastic smaller pieces at the bottom of the photos and how are they use and assembled? I think the lower guard to the left is for the Mark V and the guard to the right for a 505, 510,520. Am I correct?

Re: What is this?
Welcome aboard.
Yes, the guard on the left is for the Mark V-500 and the guard on the right is for the Mark V 505 etc
The plastic parts at the bottom mount on the tie bar under the table.
Link to the manual for the left guard,

Re: What is this?
Thank you for responding to my inquiry. I guess I want to know which one of the components in the picture should I use for dust collection? Will either one work?
Re: What is this?
For use with the 520 table use the one on the right.shoedo wrote:Thank you for responding to my inquiry. I guess I want to know which one of the components in the picture should I use for dust collection? Will either one work?

Re: What is this?
ok, I will use the one on the right as you indicated but which piece of plastic goes with the saw guard on the right? Thanks
Re: What is this?
If the piece of plastic is under the respecive saw guard it's totally coincidental. Does one piece of plastic goes with one saw guard and the other piece of plastic with another?
Re: What is this?
Also the one on the right.shoedo wrote:ok, I will use the one on the right as you indicated but which piece of plastic goes with the saw guard on the right? Thanks

Re: What is this?
Does the upper table configuration determine which lower saw guard is used?
Re: What is this?
Yes, they are not interchange able.shoedo wrote:Does the upper table configuration determine which lower saw guard is used?
The upper guard on the 500 has a splitter and attaches to a block at the back of the table.
The 510 & 520 tables are larger, they are used with longer arbors as the blade is further in from the left edge, the upper guard is attached to the lower guard by a riving knife that goes through table insert.
