Coupler Hub Questions

Post by Spooner »

I have a newer never out of the box Belt Sander and Jointer I bought on Ebay.

Neither of them came with coupler hubs.

So two pronged question.

1.) When you purchase a new SS Mark 7 does it come with coupler hubs already on the head or do I need to purchase them separate?

2.) Which hubs do I need to purchase for the jointer and the belt sander?

Most of the time on eBay they refer to the hubs as 5/8" hubs or 4 or 5 notched hubs.

If I'm going to be buying a Mark 7 in the future and I have two SPT's with out hubs. Which ones do I need?

Again, historically no!

SPT= 5 notch.

Headstock = 4 notch. There are different versions. Upper shaft hubs are longer. Idler shaft hubs are both full open(older) and closed on one end(newer). All will fit a 5/8" shaft.

P.S. the coupler 'likes' them all.

The jointer will need the 1/2" accessory hub and the belt sander will need the 5/8" accessory hub. A new Mk 7 should come with the drive hubs but I am not sure if they will be installed. For future reference, the jigsaw and scroll saw also use the 1/2" accessory hub all of the other SPT's use the 5/8" accessory hub.
